For those who believe in Jesus Christ:
Forgiveness is the basis on which we approach God. If it weren't for forgiveness, we would be without hope. What is the lesson that we can learn from that alone? We must forgive one another. If we believe that God forgave us and excused our unpayable debt of sin, then how much more should we forgive those who might sin against us? Our perfect God forgave our sins. We aren't even perfect, so it would not make sense for us to hold sins against one another. Of course it is hard to forgive, but it is necessary, both for our relationship with God and for our relationships with one another. Jesus says in Matthew 5:23-24, "So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift." We see here that Jesus put such importance on being reconciled to one another that He says we should put it on a higher priority than our sacrificial worship to Him! Brothers and sisters, we must forgive one another in humility so that we can worship God freely.

For those who do not believe in Jesus Christ:
Did you know that you are not on good terms with God? He sent His beloved Son so that you could be friends again, but you have not acknowledged what He has done for you. He died so that you could be reconciled with God. Yes, God does not hate you. Far from it! He is so deeply in love with you that He would give the greatest sacrifice of all - His Son - so that you don't have to go against Him any more. Your imperfection will be taken away! You will be free to truly love God, based on His great love for you. Please, accept what Jesus has done for you. He died in your place on the cross and rose again three days later, conquering death, so that you might live with Him forever in heaven.
Do you believe? Tell Him thank You. Pray to Him, "Father, I accept that Your Son died on the cross in my place and rose from the dead three days later so that I could live with You. Thank You so much for the gift of Your Son. I give my life to You. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen."
